Progessive Concrete Inc. - Press ReleasesSeahaus:
A unique project of luxury
La Jolla, CA: August 24, 2004:
One of the unique coastal communities in all of Southern California,
unrivaled in proximity to the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean,
the 139-unit Seahaus La Jolla community will be a landmark property
in prestigious La Jolla, California. Developed by a new joint venture
partnership formed between Barratt American, Inc. and CLB Partners,
LTD., the enclave of homes will range in size from approximately
840 to 2300 square feet and will include studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom,
and two-bedroom plus den floor plans. Individual homes will feature
attractive floor plans with ocean views, spacious balconies, upgraded
finishes and superior appliance packages. Amenities for the community
will include a pool, garden area, and community room and exercise
facilities.
The Seahaus project is a Type V high-end condominium development in the
Bird Rock area of La Jolla . The project is located on a four-acre site
two blocks from the Pacific Ocean with 265,000 square feet of build-out.
Over 80,000 cubic yards of earth was moved to create the space to construct
the parking garages. The architect, M.W. Steele, has incorporated architect
Irving Gill’s style into the buildings. Irving Gill was a pioneering
architect of the early 1900’s that was influenced by the Spanish
missions. Gill incorporated trellises and landscaping into his clean and
simple buildings. The creative designs of Delorenzo Landscape Architects
and Conover Designs expound upon this element.
To bring the concept into reality is Webcor Builders, under
the leaders ship of Mr. Ken Summers who brought San Diego the W
Hotel. Progressive Concrete is proud to once again to team with
Webcor and take on the creative challenges that will make this truly
the distinctive development envisioned by Barratt Homes and its
designers.
Progressive and PCC cast in ABC’s
Extreme Makeover Home Edition
Encinitas, CA: June 29, 2004: A team from ABC's "Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition" surprised Encinitas resident Brian Wofford, a widower
and the father of eight nearly two weeks ago when they showed up on his
doorstep and offered to remodel his home. Wofford's family and friends
knew he could use the help. Four years ago, Wofford's wife, Teresa, died
from complications of the flu. "This family just really deserves
it after the tragic loss of their mother. If anyone deserves it, it really
is this family," said a family friend.
In a letter to the show, Wofford wrote, "With tears in my eyes,
I ask for your help for my children. They should have it better."
"He takes care of eight kids. He manages his own business. He tries
to manage the house. He's just falling short, so we are here to help him,"
said Diane Korman, the show's producer.
ABC’s Extreme Makeover crew contacted and relied upon Jim Bruno
and Bill Larson of Pacific Commercial Construction, who organized more
than 100 sub contractors who worked 24/7 over the course of five days,
transforming the Wofford's three-bedroom, two-bathroom Encinitas house
into a dream home.
Progressive Concrete was proud to be part of this wonderful event. “When
undertaking an ordinary project such as this, it is usually several days
to grade, form, pour, stamp, strip and detail,” said Dennis Koolhaas
of Progressive Concrete. “However, when Jim and Bill said it had
to be done within 24 hours, we knew it would be a challenge. It was very
rewarding to see the entire PCI crew pick up on the excitement of this
challenge. They came together with ingenuity and sacrifice, working all
hours to have the driveway, entry and sidewalks complete.” PCI is
proud of its crew and its relationship with Jim Bruno and Bill Larson
of Pacific Commercial Construction and highly acknowledge the sacrifice
they all made to make this project a reality.
The show will air in September.

Gaslamp Square
– San Diego
Escondido: April 9, 2003: Swinerton Construction began construction
of Champion Development Group's $100 million, nearly 280,000-square-foot
Gaslamp Square -- a mixed-use project on the only fully developable
block in the Gaslamp Quarter.
When the two-phase project is completed in fall 2004, Gaslamp Square
will be comprised of 208 luxury rental residences, some 65,000 square
feet of commercial space accommodating retailers and restaurants,
as well as some 560 subterranean parking spaces, two-thirds of which
will be public parking.
The San Diego division of Swinerton Builders began construction
of the 163,000-square-foot first development phase of Gaslamp Square
in early November. The first phase encompasses the southern half
of the 60,100-square-foot block bounded by Fourth and Fifth avenues
between Island Avenue and J Street. Because of the intricacy involved
and a very aggressive timetable, Swinerton Construction chose Progressive
Concrete as their installer of choice. Progressive concrete is proud
to be part of this wonderful landmark in the heart of San Diego’s
Gaslamp District.
When completed in late spring 2004, the first construction phase
will be comprised of some 40,000 gross square feet of retail and
restaurant space at grade and mezzanine level, including Southern
California's first Oceanaire Seafood Room restaurant; 120 luxury
rental residences; and more than 350 subterranean parking spaces.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have Gaslamp Square's first
phase under construction," says Robert D. Champion, president
of Los Angeles-headquartered Champion Development Group. "We
recognized the site as one of the premier development opportunities
in Downtown San Diego some years ago, and our conviction has never
wavered."
When he closed escrow on the purchase of the property in
April 1998, Champion described it as possibly the most impressive
site he'd worked on in 20 years of real state development.
