Stamped concrete is a process where a specific pattern or
design is imprinted into the concrete. Stamped Concrete comes with
a standard dusted on color with a release color. Both must be
elected in order to produce a quality result! The colors are a
powdered color that is thrown onto the concrete when wet. It is
possible to use an integral color and have base color mixed into
the concrete when it is poured and then have the dusted colors as
the release or accent colors, but we typically use the dusted on
process for coloring the concrete when using stamps.
To begin, the natural grey concrete is poured and leveled smooth.
From here, the base color is thrown onto the wet concrete and
troweled/worked into the concrete. Once the base color is mixed
into the top of the concrete, the release color(s) or accent colors
are thrown on top of the base color. It is possible to use several
different release colors at once, the average amount is 1-3
colors. Once all of the release colors are applied the selected
stamp is applied last to the wet/curing concrete. The stamps look
like puzzle pieces, one fitting close to the next. Pressure is
added to the stamps to ensure the stamp has made a defined
impression. The stamps are then removed and the concrete is left
to cure. The crew returns the next day to wash the release color
off the concrete with water. The release color must be captured so
that it can be disposed of properly.
The concrete will sit for at least 28 days after which time we
seal the concrete.
All stamped concrete needs to be sealed.
